Obituary of Todd Jay Armstrong

Todd Jay Armstrong (88), of Lewiston, New York, passed away on March 8, 2023, surrounded by his children. Todd suffered a short battle against lung and throat cancer. Todd was born to Charlotte and Phillip Armstrong on January 21, 1936, in Buffalo, New York. He attended Lewiston Porter High School, graduating in 1955. Todd enlisted in the United States Navy in January 1956. He served on the USS Boston guided missile cruiser and was honorably discharged in December 1959. He married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Condren, in 1957 and later divorced after 16 years of marriage. They had four exceptional children together. The family moved from Youngstown, New York, to Ventura, California, in 1970, where the US Navy hired him for a position as an Antenna Rigger at Point Mugu, California. He later married the love of his life, Vera Lynn (Dixie) Hoffland. They were inseparable until she died in 2018. They loved to travel and lived in many different places: California, Hawaii, Maryland, North Carolina, Louisiana, and Texas. He spent the last few years in Lewiston, New York. Todd was a thoughtful and caring man. He was known for being a good listener, especially when he wore his hearing aids. He enjoyed cooking for others and knew how to make a great loaf of bread. He enjoyed watching sports such as golf, football, and basketball. He was artistic and very handy around the house. He also loved gardening. Todd is survived by his four children, Jeff Armstrong, La Mesa, CA; Ann Cox, Quitman, TX; Jane Nettleton, Winnsboro, TX; and Matt Armstrong, Quitman, TX, as well as ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
