Joan had been my neighbor for more than 50 years. Her daughters were my babysitters. She encouraged me in learning to sew. Together we participated in a Stretch and Sew class and learned to make, t-shirts, jackets, slacks and many articles of clothing for our children. When ever I needed help with quilting, making Christmas Tree skirts, curtains, etc., she was there to offer suggestions.
We also participated in a Bible Study on the book of Ester which helped me to grow more spiritually.
Later, when she needed help after her husband passed she was so relieved that my husband, Walter was across the street and always willing to help her when her basement flooded, check her appliances and offer advice. She knew how he loved to go to Crosby's for coffee and would appear at our door with a gift certificate for him.
I will surely miss Joan and our walks down Andrews Rd in the evening, watching the humming birds she loved to feed, our frequent phone conversations and how much she loved ice cream.
