Douglas L. Ortiz, age 75 of Newfane, formerly of Ransomville, died Sunday February 6, 2011 in the Eastern Niagara Hospital in Newfane after a long illness. Doug was born February 2, 1936 in Ransomville, the son of the late Pedro and Doris (Chapin) Ortiz and was a lifelong resident. He was a 1954 graduate of Wilson High School. For 12 years he worked at the former Courter Chevrolet in Ransomville. Doug then owned and operated Triway Collision for many years. He was also the Treasurer for the original Ransomville "SloPokes" from 1955 to 1957. He is survived by three brothers, Rev. Peter (Vivian) Ortiz of Washington, DC, Edward (Betty) Ortiz of Ransomville, and Rick (Janice) Ortiz of Newfane; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Frances Chase. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Friday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM and Saturday from 10 -11 AM. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 12, at 11:00 AM in the funeral home with the Rev. Peter Ortiz officiating. Burial will follow in North Ridge Cemetery, Church Rd., Town of Cambria. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 101 John James Audubon Pkwy., Amherst, NY 14228, or to the Newfane Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, 2709 Transit Rd., Newfane, NY 14108.
