Obituary of Carol J. Stuart

Carol J. Stuart, 93, of Lewiston, New York, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024. A lifelong resident of the Village of Lewiston, she was born on August 28, 1930, to the late Gilbert R. Farr and Gladys A. Farr. She attended the Red Brick Schoolhouse in Lewiston and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1948. She then attended Buffalo State College where she was a member of the Phi Epsilon American Honor Society. On June 9, 1951, she married James C. Stuart, with whom she celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary shortly before his passing in 2021. Carol worked for many years at Coulson’s Pharmacy in Lewiston, and then worked for and retired from HSBC Bank (Marine Midland) after 24 years as a bank teller. She was also a member of the Lewiston Fire Co. No. 1 Ladies’ Auxiliary for 57 years where she served as Treasurer for many years. In her later years, she also worked as a seamstress for her son at Stuart Sports. She was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston, where she served as Treasurer of the Women’s Association and as Assistant Financial Secretary. She was also a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Niagara Falls Chapter 355. She was an accomplished knitter and seamstress, and was well-known for, amongst other things, the knit blankets, sweaters, and socks which she made for generations of family and friends. She belonged to several knitting groups and the Knitting Guild of Buffalo. Carol is survived by her five children, David (Jackie) Stuart, Linda (Steve) Ruest, Lawrence (Donna) Stuart, Curtis (Wendy) Stuart and Jane (Michael) Gurr, and by 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brothers, Gerald Farr, and Robert Farr. Family and friends will be present on FRIDAY from 4-8 PM. at the HARDISON FUNERAL HOME 401 Ridge St. Lewiston ( N. Fourth and Ridge St.) Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston 505 Cayuga St. in Lewiston on SATURDAY (1/20) at 10:00 AM.
