Joan L. Woods, age 57 of Ransomville NY, died Friday February 4, 2011 in Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, after a long illness. Joan was born November 29, 1953 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late James and Loretta (Buttery) Canfield. She was a 1971 graduate of Lewiston Porter High School. For 10 years she owned and operated Woods Insurance Agency in Ransomville. Prior to that she had worked in her family's restaurant, The Shanty, on Lake Rd. in Ransomville. Joan married Thomas Woods in September of 1987. She is survived by her husband, Tom; a son, James (Danelle) Veillette of Detroit, MI; her sisters, Susan (Steven) Hillman of Ransomville and Brenda (Stephen) Swidergal of Grand Island; a granddaughter, Hayden Veillette and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Judith Canfield. , A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 12, at 11:00 AM in the Cambria United Church of Christ, 4045 Lower Mt. Rd., Town Of Cambria. There will be no prior visitation. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to the Ransomville Vol. Fire Co. Ambulance Fund, PO Box 239, Ransomville, NY 14131. Arrangements have been entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Rd. Ransomville, NY.
