Darlene Linda Silvis (Scheie) born March 11, 1940 in Minot North Dakota, passed away on Monday July 24th at age of 83 at Mercy Hospital, Buffalo NY surrounded by her family. She is survived by the LOVE OF HER LIFE and husband of 65 years, Paige Silvis of Wilson NY.
Darlene was the proud mother of 5 children, 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Daughter, Dee Mantione, Grandson Jordon Mantione, wife Justina and great grandchild Lincoln Mantione of Gainesville, Georgia. Son, Hal Silvis of Niagara Falls NY, deceased March of 2022. Daughter Deborah Slawinski, husband MiKe Slawinski, granddaughter, Jade Slawinski -Goodman and Husband Ron Goodman and granddaughter Joye Slawinski of Placerville California. Son, Daniel Silvis of Wison NY, deceased May of 1992. Daughter, Rebecca Thering, husband Tom Thering, granddaughter Maria Thering and grandson Tommy Thering.
She was the eldest of 5 siblings. Kenneth Lilley of Vanceboro North Carolina, Delrae Travers of Falls Church Virginia. Norman Scheie, Roberta Cruder and Francie Lilley preceding her in death.
Darlene had a passion for cooking, with a collection of over 50 cookbooks. She could often be found in the kitchen trying out a new recipe from one of her books, tweaking a recipe or creating her own recipe. She is most known for her Spaghetti sauce. It was so delicious her family would tell her they could just drink it from a cup. She used her culinary skills often when someone from her congregation (Ransomville Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses) was ill or in need of encouragement. Even when she became housebound, she would cook for others and have her husband Paige deliver to the person/family it was made for.
As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses she was always ready to share her love of the Bible and faith in her hope for the future with anyone who would listen. Darlene also never met a stranger. She had the uncanny knack of making friends with anyone she met. People gravitated to her innate sense of humor and smile always remarking on the flower she wore in her hair which she never left home without.
Darlene was not much of a sports enthusiast until about the age of 50 when she attended her first Buffalo Bills game. From then on, she was a diehard Bills fan. You could see her on game day with her Buffalo Bills flower in her hair and one-of-a-kind Bills ring on her finger.
Darlene, Dar, Muv, EEEheart, Momma, Mom, Gammie,Gramma, Sis, Sister Silvis and Lucy (her favorite TV show) left a legacy of love, humor, hope and faith to her immediate family, extended family and friends. She will be severely missed by all.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
