Helen M. Murray, age 92, of Youngstown died on Thursday, March 30th, 2023. Helen was born February 19th, 1931, in Buffalo, NY. She is the daughter of the late Manuel and the late Paulina (Gao) Novo. Helen was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy H.S. She married Donald F. Murray on September 4th, 1955. He predeceased her on February 8th, 2014.
Helen was the owner, operator, and teacher at Helen Murray Dance Studio for many years. She was a very active member of St. Bernard’s RC Church in Youngstown, NY serving as the Sacristan of the church for many years. She was the choreographer for the student musicals at Bishop Neumann H.S. Helen received the Citizen of the Year award from the Village of Youngstown in 2018. Her family, friends, and faith were the most important things in her life.
She is survived by two daughters: Mary Ellen Murray (Tim Young) of Long Beach, CA and Anne Marie Murray of Amherst, NY; a sibling, Amelita Novo Roth, also numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends. She is predeceased by her son Timothy Murray and her siblings, Emilio Novo, Ramon Novo, Lucy Novo Volland, Paulina Novo Kasper, Carmen Novo Shepard, Manuel Francis Novo, and James Novo.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 3rd from 3-7 PM. at Hardison Funeral Home at 401 Ridge St. Lewiston, NY 14092.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:00 AM. on Tuesday, April 4th at St. Bernard's RC Church, Hinman & Second, Youngstown, NY with Rev. Cole Webster officiating. Entombment will be in St. Peter and Paul RC Cemetery, Town of Amherst, NY following at 2:00 PM.
