Obituary of Michael J. Portik

Michael J. Portik, age 75, of Lockport , formerly of Swann Rd. in Ransomville, died Friday, January 20, 2023, at Newfane Rehab and HCF in Newfane, NY. Mr. Portik was born on November 16, 1947, in Niagara Falls, NY. He is the son of the late Joseph and the late Florence (Tokarska) Portik. Michael was a graduate of Lew-Port H.S class of 1965 and went on to attend St. John’s Seminary in Buffalo, NY as a theology student for 6 years. During the Vietnam War era Michael was officially declared a conscientious objector. He dedicated his life to helping his father maintain the family property and caring for his ailing mother. Michael was very intelligent with a high IQ, was articulate, well read and was a self-taught classical pianist. He served as a Eucharistic Minister, both at Stella Niagara and at his lifelong Church St. Bernard’s in Youngstown. Surviving is his sister-in-law , Jacqueline Portik; also several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers, Robert E. Portik and Joseph D. Portik.
