Our deepest condolences to the Mathews family. I first remember Mr. Mathews as a young 6th grade teacher, years later as a teacher for my children. Then Cal and I had the pleasure of having his and Jan's son Shawn work for us in our pizzeria. He radiated kindness, humility and a grand sense of humor. He will be truly missed.

We began as friends and ended as friends 60 years later. Rest in peace, Lou. Your battle is over. Will always remember your smile!

Uncle Lou rescued sister Lynne and Keith when Mom and Dad K thought it would be fun to send the young brothers home with Lynne after Keith's required Army Reserve summer commitment. They were very happy to drop us off and Uncle Lou kept us entertained by riding along with him as he visited various pool and beach sites he was supervising. I don't know how they thanked him but he was a jolly person to ride with.

I baby sat for him and spent many hours trying to master algebra. I always remember his kindness and his personal praise when he told my mother and me that I earned a 90 on the regents and if it wasn’t for a simple mistake in a 10 point question I would have earned 100. That was around 55 years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday. One summer I worked as a cleaner in the high school and he drove me home because it was too hot to ride my 10 speed bike after work. Condolences to the family. RIP Lou!

My favorite memory of cousin Lou was his infectious smile. He was always laughing when his family would join us at Thanksgiving in Corning at Aunt Gracies and Uncle Henry's( my Grandparent's house.) My prayers are with you all at this sad time. God bless, Cousin Kathy

Q: Describe where Lou worked and what they did
A: I had Mr. Matthews in 8th grade math. He was a good man and a very good teacher. He made a lasting impression on myself and many others. My condolences to Shawn, who was a classmate and Mrs. Matthews, who was also my math teacher in high school.
