Gary W. Smith 77, of Youngstown, husband of Sandra Smith (nee Winchester) passed away on Wednesday September 7th, 2022, at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston. Gary was born on December 19th, 1944, in Niagara Falls, NY to the late Gerald and Mary “Betty” Smith. He served in the U.S Navy from 1963 to 1966 as a radioman aboard the aircraft carrier USS Wasp, where he once received a message from President Lyndon B. Johnson congratulating Jim Lovell and the Gemini crew on their mission. He married Sandra Winchester on December 28th, 1991. Gary enjoyed space, astrology, music, art and painting, and his dogs Phoebe and Bailey. He was always looking to gain knowledge, was a wonderful conversationalist, enjoyed traveling, and spending time with family and friends, especially his extended family, the Adamson’s. Gary retired from Carborundum as a purchasing agent. Surviving is his wife, Sandra; children, Randy (Tina), Rich (Alicia) and Gary (Dawn) Smith, 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Gary donated his body to the University of Buffalo Anatomical Gift Program. A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 AM. on September 24th, 2022, at the HARDISON FUNERAL HOMES INC. 401 Ridge St. Lewiston, NY (N. Fourth and Ridge).
