Obituary of Mary Jean Lytle
Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Jean Lytle, age 100, of Lower River Rd., Lewiston, died Tuesday, June 28, 2022 in her home along the Niagara River. She was born November 30, 1921 in Eugene, Oregon, the daughter of Edward and Alice (Murphy) Allen.
Mary Jean married Chares I. Lytle (deceased) January 3, 1942 and resided in Lewiston for the past 62 years. As a homemaker and mother of 8, grandmother of 20, and great Nana to 22, her family was an integral part of her life. She instilled a love of reading, a deep appreciation of nature and a keen, yet fun, sense of competition in her children. She enjoyed bowling, golf at the Niagara Falls Country Club and a game of bridge on many occasions. Mary Jean was an active member of her community as a member of The Tatler, Niagara Falls Memorial Auxiliary, Lewiston Garden Club and multiple Book Clubs. She and Charles had many adventures and travels in the United States and overseas, but she was always happy to return home. They shared second homes in Irasburg, Vermont and Sedona, Arizona.
Her cherished laugh, warm smile, fair and thoughtful guidance will be missed by many. While no words can cover a century of a lifetime, all that came to know Mary Jean, Nean, Mom, Nana, and great Nana have been blessed.
Mary Jean is survived by her children, Thomas (Candace) Lytle, Mary Jean ”Penny” (late Daniel) Luch, Constance “Connie” (Brien) Gidlow, Kathleen (late Patrick) Kelly, Paul (Deborah) Lytle, Charles (Susan) Lytle II, John (Cynthia) Lytle, and Marguerite “Molly” Lytle, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
Special thanks to Marguerite Lytle who cared for Mary Jean for six years.
There will be no visitation but a Celebration of Life will be private and held in the future. Flowers are gratefully declined. Contributions may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094 or to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements entrusted to Hardison Funeral Homes Inc.
