Obituary of Andrew H. Skavinsky, Jr.

Andrew H. Skavinsky, Jr., age 74 of Ransomville, died Saturday November 20, 2010 at his residence under the loving care of his family and Niagara Hospice. Andrew was born April 5, 1936 in Gere, WV, the son of the late Andrew H., Sr. and the late Dorothy (Wolfe) Skavinsky. He married Sylvia (Thomas) Skavinsky on June 15, 1963 and they have resided in Ransomville the last 46 years. Andrew served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to his honorable discharge as a Specialist 3rd Class in 1957. He trained at the 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Jackson, SC and the 514th Antiaircraft Artillery Missile Battalion "NIKE" in Blue Hill, MA. He continued his service in the Army Reserves from 1957-1963. Andrew was a Lineman, employed by Niagara Mohawk for five years and then was a Hot Stick Lineman for the NY State Power Authority for 32 years, retiring in 1993. He enjoyed woodcarving, ceramics, the outdoors and bird watching. An avid sportsman, he was a fan of the West Virginia University sports teams and enjoyed fishing, golf and attending the "Porter Cup" in Lewiston. Most of all he loved his home and family. In addition to his wife, Sylvia, he is survived by a son, Andrew H. (Kimberlee) Skavinsky, III and a daughter, Barbara Skavinsky both of Wilson; his grandchildren Elizabeth and Kevin Skavinsky; three brothers, Donald (Brenda) Skavinsky, Joseph, and Robert (Jane) Skavinsky; three sisters, Dorothy Snyder, Blanche (Frank) Fields, and Carolyn (Richard) McCord all of Morgantown, WV. He was predeceased by a sister, Diane. Services will be private at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc., WNY Chapter, 315 Alberta Dr., Amherst, NY 14226, the American Cancer Society, 101 John James Audubon Pkwy., Amherst, NY 14228, or to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094.
