Colonel Sutherland and I met at Amarillo Air Force Base in Texas. He was the Base Commander and I was the Senior Chaplain. We were responsibile for closing the airbase from active duty. He assisted me with a sticky personnel problem. For the past 56 years I have remembered him with appreciation for his fairness.

Jackie: Ramona and I send our deepest condolences to you and all the family in this time of great loss. I had great memories of working with Bruce on projects at the museum and renovating the old building on the corner of Academy Park. Coffee at the Orange Cat was made special when I would be invited by Bruce to sit with him and the others, there was always room for at least one more to sit and share stories!
He will be missed by many, so sorry for his loss!

Jackie, My prayers are with you and all Bruce's family. I owe my love of golf to Bruce because of the rounds we played at NCCC. He taught me how to play the game better and most of all to have fun doing it. I'll think of him each time I get on the links at Hyde Park. I will also always remember his attendance and kind words at the memorial service for my brother-in-law Pete MacLaren. He accomplished so much and will be missed yet remembered. Carl Albion

My wife and I send our deepest sympathies to Jackie and all the family. I miss him already so I know he will be missed by those closest to him. I first met Bruce in 1964 where we played basketball together at NCCC from 64-66. Bruce went on to Geneseo and I to Niagara U. Bruce had a loving heart and was always positive. Over the years when he came home from leave he would come to visit my wife Maureen and I then when we retired I got to know him better when we would sit together at the coffee shop many mornings.
I had the pleasure of meeting some of his family who would come sit with us.
I know he had a strong faith in God so I say his friendship added to my life a great deal.
Until we meet again Bruce.

Bruce and I were Captains at Southwest Airlines and shared a crash pad together in Baltimore, where we were based, for many years. Bruce was the consummate professional. An outstanding Captain and pilot, and even better person, if that’s possible. Everyone loved flying with Bruce and being part of his crew. I will always cherish the many talks we had in the crash pad before we began our trips at Southwest. I feel blessed to have known Bruce and know that he touched many lives, both as a Captain and teacher in the aircraft and as a friend To all who knew him! RIP my friend. Wally Huiet

Memories of my Lew-Port classmate Bruce Sutherland glow brightly even after 59 years. In those days Bruce was an electrifying basketball player and a steadfast leader off the court. It was no surprise that he went on to become a top military leader, and that he was still wowing his fans until his last days. R.I.P., Bruce.
