Harold “Harry” Ernest Hartwig, Town of Cambria peacefully received his call to his Lord Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at the age of 87, after being hospitalized at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital under the care of doctors, dedicated nurses and his family, he passed of natural causes. Harold was born February 4, 1934 to William A. and Louisa A. (Bugenhagen) Hartwig at his home in Clarence Center, NY, the youngest of eight children. Harold graduated from Parker High School, Clarence, NY in 1951; served in the U.S. Army for 21 months, worked for Lockport contractor Herb Pless before owning and operating Door Company of Niagara, based in Niagara Falls and serving Western Niagara County for 33 years. Harry previously served as the Republican Election Machine Custodian for close to 30 years for the Districts of Cambria and was the Maintenance Superintendent of Cambria Hillside Cemetery for 15 years, retiring in 2020. After living among many hills, and some valleys, Harry writes the final chapter of his life and leaves his beloved wife of 61 years, Barbara (Blackman) Hartwig, four children, Daniel (Kathleen) Hartwig, Mary (Bruce) Zeller, Timothy (Barbara) Hartwig, and Rebecca (Robert) Miller. Nine grandchildren: Krista Mae (Robert) Hudson, Marc, and Bradley Hartwig; Derek, Troy (Lindsey), and Maegan Zeller; Theodore, Allyson, and Logan Miller; and late grandson Robert John “RJ” Miller, Jr.; three great-grandchildren Kian, Calder, and Raina Hudson. He is survived by two sisters Clara (late Robert) Weber, Ora (late Arthur “Bud”) Ganschow and sister-in-law Janice (late Arthur) Hartwig and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers: Herman, Albert, and Arthur; and sisters: Helen Thering, and Ella Kart. The family will gather at Hardison Funeral Homes Inc., 3648 Ransomville Rd, Ransomville, on Friday, December 10, 2021, from 3PM to 8PM, with Funeral Service being held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 420 Lockport St, Youngstown on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at 10:30AM, with internment at Cambria Hillside Cemetery. Out of respect for others the family has asked that all visitors to the funeral home and church be fully masked.
