Joseph Graney

December 24, 1923 — November 5, 2010

Joseph F. Graney, age 86 of Youngstown, passed away Friday November 5, 2010 in Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara (Sanderson) Graney of Youngstown; two daughters, Lisa (Byron) Kurtgis of Franklin, TN and Teresa Kishel of East Aurora, NY; two grandsons, Michael S. and Daniel S. Kishel of East Aurora, NY; a brother, David (Mary) Graney of Upper Arlington, OH; 6 nieces and 5 nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, John S. Graney and Genevieve (Sullivan) Graney of Auburn, NY; a brother, John Michael Graney of NJ, and an infant sister, Agnes Graney of Auburn, NY. A WW II Veteran, he served our country as a U.S. Marine in the Pacific Theatre from 1943 -1945 experiencing combat at Guadalcanal, Guam, and Okinawa. Joseph joined the U.S. Border Patrol in 1947 and was stationed in Brownsville, TX and then in Rouses Point, NY. He then transferred to the U. S. Immigration Service in Niagara Falls, NY in 1957. He retired after 32 years of service while stationed at the Toronto International Airport. He was a former member of the V.F.W., American Legion, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Niagara Falls. The family will be present to receive relatives and friends at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Saturday, November 13, from 1 to 4 pm. Flowers are gratefully declined. If so desired, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice in Joe's name. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and honorable man who will be greatly missed.
