Obituary of Richard E. Band

Richard E. Band, age 84 of Youngstown, died Sunday October 31, 2010 in Medina Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Richard was born January 11, 1926 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Donald R. and Margaret (Wilson) Band, and was a graduate of McKinley Vocational High School. He was a WW II U.S. Army Veteran, serving with the 66th Infantry Division from 1944 to his honorable discharge in 1946. He was the recipient of the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the WW II Victory Medal, and the Army Occupation Medal. Richard worked at Goodyear Chemical Co. in Niagara Falls from 1957 to 1966. He then was employed as a Checker for the Niagara Junction Railroad from 1966 to 1982. Richard retired as a custodian from the Lewiston Porter School District after 4 years of service. On April 11, 1959 he married Mary (Wolf) Band and they have resided in Youngstown the past 51 ½ years.
Mr. Band was a member of the Lewiston Assembly of God and was involved with the "Royal Rangers" at the Church. He enjoyed carpentry and gardening.
He is survived by wife, Mary; his daughters, Marie (Franklin) George of Lewiston and Cindi (George) Wilkins of Middleport; his grandchildren, Natisha, Franklin Jr., Nathan and Richard George, Nova and Kelsey Wilkins; a brother, Francis (Betty Ann) Band of Kenmore and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Jeanette Thoma and three brothers, Robert, Fred, and Jerry Band.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Thursday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM. Funeral Services will be held Friday, November 5, at 10:00 AM in the Lewiston Assembly of God, 4754 Creek Rd., Lewiston with the Rev. John J. Sperrazza officiating. (Please assemble at Church). Burial will follow in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston. Memorials may be made to Roswell Park Cancer Institute, PO Box 631, Buffalo, NY 14240-9856.
