Dr. Carol S. Pierce PhD. (Nee Shaffer), age 83, of Lockport entered into rest on Monday, November 1, 2021, at Elderwood of Lockport. Dr. Pierce was born on March 4, 1938, in Lockport, NY. She is the daughter of the late Glenn and the late Dorothy (Peters) Shaffer. Carol graduated from Lockport High School in 1956. She then earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Science from Mt. Union University in Ohio, Master’s Degree of Biological Science from The University of Chicago, Master’s Degree of Science from The University at Buffalo and her PhD from The University at Buffalo. Carol researched infectious disease and taught parasitology, microbiology, and immunology at The University of Buffalo and was the Chairman of the Dept. of Medical Technology for 10 years. She also taught at Daemen College, ECC North and South and Monroe CC. In her free time she loved to play golf and travel with her sister, Nancy. In her latter years she resided at Elderwood of Lockport where she enjoyed Bingo and doing jigsaw puzzles. Surviving is her brother Glenn Shaffer and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister Nancy Wilson and brother Carl Shaffer. As requested, Carol will be cremated, private services and inurnment will be in Forestville Cemetery.
