Obituary of Maude H. Hayes

Maude H. Hayes, age 88 of Ransomville, died Thursday July 2, 2009 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Residence in Lewiston. Born in Hamilton, WV on January 15, 1921 to the late Garfield and Eliza Anne (Rhoades) Haddix. Maude graduated from Kingwood High School, West Virginia in 1940. On March 19, 1941 she married Arthur W. Hayes and together they moved to Ransomville the same year. Arthur predeceased her on November 24, 1996. Maude worked at the former Ransomville General Hospital for 5 years, then at Mt. View Health Facility in Lockport for 15 years. For 25 years she owned and operated Hayes Coffee Shop on Burch Rd., Ransomville, until her retirement in 1998. She was very proud of her collection of correspondence from famous politicians and congressmen over the years. Maude enjoyed all her customers from the coffee shop, both regulars and strangers, but she mostly loved being with her children and grandchildren. Survivors include her seven children, Patricia (David) Holloway of Ransomville, William (Phyllis) Hayes of Coudersport, PA, Timothy (Sharon) Hayes of Ransomville, Linda (Phillip) Wiepert of Ransomville, Jacqueline Bancroft of Niagara Falls, Jeffrey Hayes (Donna Eick) of Lockport, and Duane Hayes of Ransomville; two brothers, John (Twila) Haddix and James Haddix of Independence, WV. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Gary Hayes and 12 brothers and sisters. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville, Monday from 4 - 8 pm. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, July 7, at 11:00 am from the funeral home.
