She graduated from Bellwood Antis High School in 1942. During WWII Alma worked at a Sylvania Electric Products factory in Altoona, PA.
On July 14, 1943, she married Vinton R. Barth. Following the end of the second World War, Alma and her husband moved their young family to Niagara Falls, NY. She worked as wait staff at the Country Kernel Restaurant, the concession stands at the Ransomville Speedway, as well as babysitting. In addition, Alma attended Niagara Falls Adult Education programs in office work. Healthy for much of her life, in her last years, Alma struggled with the impact of memory loss.
