Obituary of Margaret H. Lort

Margaret H. (Christie) “Granny” Lort, 86, of Gasport wife of the late Enoch G. “Gordy” Lort entered into eternal peace at her home after a brief non-covid related illness. She was born on March 20, 1934 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to the late Claude and Edith Christie. She graduated from Sault Area High School She married Gordy Lort on October 10, 1953. Margaret worked on the production line at Harrison Radiator (Delphi) for 30 years retiring in 1993. Margaret was a devoted Granny, great-granny, and mother. She devoted 64 years of service to the Gasport Chemical Hose Ladies Auxiliary, 49 years as an active member of Gasport Chapter #153 of the Order of Eastern Star and many other causes and organizations. She was a faithful member of Covenant United Church of Christ in Gasport and put in many hours over the years during the annual Holiday Bazaar where she was “pie Chairman”, organized many funeral luncheons, and was always hawking tickets for one organization or another. Margaret cherished her time with her family and always enjoyed traveling. Margaret is survived by her children; Dan (Maggie) Lort of Wellesley Island, Lori (Rick) Wegman of Gasport, and Kristi (Aaron) Mueller of Lyndonville; her 9 grandchildren Tommy Jr. (Ashley), Ryan (Liz DeWaters), Tyler (Jeremy Tyson), Allison (Frank), Shannon (James), Josh (Shannon), Jake (Amanda Austin) also Jeremy and Ben. Also surviving are 17 great-grandchildren; her brothers Robert (Kathleen) Christie of Frankfort, MI, and Ronald (Carol) Christie of Brenham, TX as well as many nieces, nephews and great friends. Margaret is predeceased by her brothers Claude and Raymond Christie, her granddaughter Kelly Wilson and grandson Jared Allen. Visitation will be held on Saturday (Feb 13th) from 10:00 AM till 1:00 PM at the Covenant UCC 4449 Main St. Gasport, NY 14067. Funeral Services will follow immediately in the church at 1:00 PM. Burial will be in Royalton Mountain Ridge Cemetery.
