Obituary of Richard Figura

Richard Figura, (September 20, 1927- November 13, 2020) age 93, died peacefully at his home in Ransomville under the loving care of family and Niagara Hospice. Richard was born to the late Joseph F. and Agnes (Kobas) Figura on their farm in Wilson, NY. In 1945 he graduated from Wilson High School and began his career as an Iron Worker. In 1950 he joined the Army, serving during the Korean War. He was released from service October 10, 1952 having earned a Korean Service Medal with two bronze service stars as well as UN Service Medal. On June 2, 1951 he married Louise West, together they had 4 children. Diane, Darlene, Richard “Butch” and James. Upon leaving the Army, Richard returned to Iron Working as a member of the Local # 9 Iron Workers Union. He was business manager during the construction of the Niagara Power Project for which his children can fondly recall seeing him working on as they would drive by. He eventually became President of the Local #9. In 1960 Richard and his 5 brothers were honored for being the largest sibling only Color Guard, their picture hangs proudly in legion hall. In 1989 Richard retired and was able to devote more of his time to his fruit and vegetable gardens, turkey and deer hunting, fishing and his brothers. Richard was a member and past Commander of the American Legion O. Leo Curtiss Post 830 in Ransomville and also served as Chairman of the Parade Committee for the Ransomville Sesquicentennial. He is survived by two daughters; Diane (Timothy) Allen and Darlene (George Geiser) Figura and one son; James T. Figura; his sisters Florence (Frances) Gergal and Agnes “Wanda” (Late Robert) Quiqley, and one brother Joesph (Celia) Figura. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 3 great-children. Richard is predeceased by his wife Louise, his son Richard and his siblings Bruno, Harry, Henry, John, and Helen as well as two half brothers Paul and Alexander Henschel. Family and friends may call on SATURDAY (November 21st) from 10:00 am to 12:00 at the HARDISON FUNERAL HOMES INC. 3648 Ransomville Road Ransomville, NY 1413. Funeral Service will immediately follow in the funeral home at 12:00 pm. Burial will be in North Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ransomville Vol. Fire Co.
