Obituary of Helen Waite

Helen Waite, age 90 of Lewiston, died Friday August 20, 2010 in the Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, after a short illness. Helen was born July 2, 1920 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Howard P. and Ethelyn (Bennett) Hale. She was a 1938 graduate of Niagara Falls High School and graduated from Edgewood Park Finishing School in Briarcliff Manor, NY. On April 11, 1942 she married Arthur E. Waite and they moved to Lewiston in 1953. Arthur predeceased her in 1995. Helen was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston where she was very active in all the Church functions, and was affectionately known as the "Donut Lady". She was also a member of the Tatler Club in Niagara Falls and was an avid reader. She is survived by her son, Howard L. Waite of Lewiston; an adopted daughter, Dian (Aldo) Ruta of Lewiston; a granddaughter, Cheryl (Nathan) Bridges; her great grandchildren, Emily Claude, Evan and Andrew Bridges. She was predeceased by a grandson, Christopher S. Waite. Memorial Services will be held on Friday, August 27, at 11:00 am in the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston, with the Rev. Robert Bellingham officiating. There will be no prior visitation. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston, 505 Cayuga St., Lewiston, NY 14092 or to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094.
