Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Fleckenstein

Mary Elizabeth Fleckenstein, age 89 formerly of Palmer Rd., Ransomville, died Thursday June 18, 2009 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Residence in Lewiston, after a brief illness. Mrs. Fleckenstein was born May 28, 1920 in Oil City, PA, the daughter of the late Peter C. and Julia (Sterner) Stubler. She was a 1938 graduate of St. Joseph RC High School in Oil City and on August 10, 1943 she married James A. Fleckenstein. They moved to Ransomville in 1947. Mary was a secretary for the Niagara County Civil Defense in Lockport for 11 years, retiring in 1989. Previous to that she served as School Secretary of the Ransomville Elementary School from 1964 to 1978. She had also worked at Bell Aircraft during WW II and for the United National Gas Company in Oil City, PA from 1938 to 1942. Mrs. Fleckenstein was a communicant of Immaculate Conception RC Church in Ransomville where she was the organist for 25 years as well as a former member of the Altar Rosary Society. She taught piano and organ lessons for several years and worked in her husband's greenhouses as well. Her hobbies were music, traveling, reading, gardening, swimming, and walking. Most of all, she loved being with her family. Her husband, James, Sr. predeceased her in 1999. She is survived by her four sons, James A. (Geraldine) Fleckenstein, Jr. of New Bern, NC, Peter R. (Shirley) Fleckentein, Thomas (Judy) Fleckenstein, and Joseph (Kelly) Fleckenstein all of Ransomville; a brother, Charles E. Stubler of Arizona; 15 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by five sisters, Mary Gertrude Homan, Mary Patricia Hargenrader, Catherine Lynch, Julia I. McNamara, and Nancy J. O'Brien; and two brothers, Peter and Joseph Stubler. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Rd., Ransomville on Sunday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 22, at 10:00 am in Immaculate Conception RC Church, 4671 Townline Rd. (Rte 429) Ransomville, with the Rev. Joseph Badding officiating. (Please assemble at Church). Burial will follow in North Ridge Cemetery, Church Rd., Town of Cambria. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 101 John James Audubon Parkway, Amherst, NY 14228.
