Obituary of Ernest K. Krell

Ernest K. Krell of Lewiston, NY, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2020 at Schoellkopf Health Center. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY on March 29, 1933, the son of the late Wilfred K. Krell and Frieda E. Engle and grandson of the late Ernest E. and Eunice Krell (Brock). Ernie attended Niagara Falls High school and then went on to proudly serve in the United States Navy, where he fought for his country during the Korean War. After the Navy, Ernie earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University at Buffalo. He is also an inventor on four United States Patents. Ernie owned various businesses over the years including OK Design and OK Vending. He also worked for the SBA through FEMA as a structural engineer and analyst during natural disasters, such as Hurricane Katrina. Ernie was always actively involved in his community. In 2010 he was elected Trustee on the Board of Trustees in the Village of Lewiston. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus as well as the Niagara 1049 Free and Accepted Masons. He was an active member in St Peters RC Church, Niagara Moose Lodge 584, VFW Post 7487, and Kiwanis Club (Niagara Frontier N Division), where he served as Lieutenant Governor in 1987 and President in 1985 and 2004, as well as former Chairman for the Lewiston Peach Festival. He and his wife Patricia also donated their time to various charitable organizations such as Opportunities Unlimited. In his earlier days, Ernie played football, baseball, enjoyed bowling, racing his horses, as well as road trips with his family and close friends. Ernie’s family meant the world to him. He was happily married to his beloved Patricia M. Krell who recently passed away in August 2019. He is survived by his loving children; Douglas Krell, Beverly Schurr (Jeffrey), Karl Krell (Catherine), Valerie Capriotti (David), Theresa Kopasz (David), and Ernest Krell Jr. (Amanda). Ernest also had many grandchildren and great grandchildren, near and dear to his heart. Grandchildren; Aubrey (Dustin), Jennifer (Timothy), Douglas Jr, Jeffrey (Christine), Kenneth, Gabrielle (Casey), Dante, Mateo, Sarah, Adison, Nico, Nolan, and Heidi. Great Grandchildren; Lucas, Alicia, Patrick, Adriana, Angelina, Jeffrey, Matthew, and Isabelle. Services have been entrusted to the Hardison Funeral Home in Lewiston. Family and friends are welcome to attend a Mass of Christian burial Saturday June 27 at 10:00am St. Peter’s RC Church 620 Center St Lewiston, NY 14092.
