Frederick E. Guard, age 84, lifelong resident of Lewiston and husband of 60 years to the late Maimu “Mai” Guard died on Monday, May 25, 2020 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY. Fred was born on December 6, 1935 in Niagara Falls, NY. He is the son of the late William and the late Martha (Reichel) Guard. He graduated from Bishop Duffy High School. Fred served in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1956 during the Korean War Era. He obtained his Associates Degree from Milwaukee School of Engineering. Fred married Maimu "Mai" (Sauga) Guard on August 22, 1959, she predeceased him on February 05, 2020. He founded Niagara Kinetics in 1968, operating until 1986 when he was able to sell the business. Fred and Mai owned and operated the Evergreen Motel and Mobile Park in Lakeland, Florida for 37 years and also the Lewiston KOA. Fred achieved the rank of Eagle scout in 1955. He was active in the Lakeland, Florida Chapter of the U.S. Power Squadron teaching Navigation and Seamanship classes, eventually becoming its Commodore. Fred was a resourceful tinkerer that was always finding ways to use old tools and equipment. A lover of limericks he could recite dozens from memory entertaining anyone willing to listen. Fred is survived by his son’s Mark (Nancy) Guard of AZ, Christopher (Judy) Guard of Youngstown, NY, and Fred (Elisabeth) Guard of Lewiston; his grandchildren, Hailey, Christopher, Macie , Madison, Annaliza and Fred III also several nieces and nephews. Fred is predeceased by two sister’s Virginia Crewe and Sally Martin. A celebration of life will be held at the Lutheran Church of The Messiah, 915 Oneida St., Lewiston, NY at a later date with officiating. Burial will be in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery.
