Obituary of Reta L. Hanson

Reta L. Hanson, age 94, of Ransomville wife of the late Kendall M. Hanson entered into rest on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at Lockport Rehab and HCC in Lockport, NY.  Reta was born August 30, 1924 in McCool, NE. She is the daughter of the late Leonard and the late Beulah (Feather) Cantrell. She attended and graduated from Fairmont H.S in Fairmont, NB.  She married Kendall M. Hanson on September 13, 1945. Reta worked for the Town of Porter as the Town Clerk for 40 years retiring in 1994.

She was member of Ransomville Fire Co. ladies Auxiliary for 54 years, a member of the Ransomville Garden Club, member and past president of the Ransomville Library Board; member of the Youngstown Senior Citizens & Ransomville Rural Retirees, the Town of Porter Historical Society; the NYS and the Niagara County Town Clerks Associations, the Niagara County Aging Advisory Committee, the Niagara County and Town of Porter Republican Committee where she was republican of the year in 1990 and 1995, Niagara County Girl Scouts as a former Leader of Brownies, Juniors and Cadets and past Board of Directors and Chairman of the personnel Committee, Reta was a 50 year member and a THANKS badge recipient. she was a Den Mother for Cub Scouts also a Niagara Council Member of the PTA at Ransomville Elementary School. Reta was a member of the Ransomville United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women’s group, also service class. Reta also taught crafts at Lew-Port Adult Ed. Program, and Sunday school at church.

She is survived by her children Donald (Renata) Hanson of Robertsdale, AL, Paul (Christina) Hanson of Golden, MO and Diane (Russell) Horvath of Ransomville, NY; her sisters Doris (Wendall) Smith of Lincoln, NE and Delila Snodgrass of Fairmont, NE. Also surviving are her grandchildren Jessica (Jonna) Horvath, Erica (Darren) Kopp, Kimberly Hanson, Scott Hanson, Vickie Osborne, Jonathan Hanson, Ethan (Megan) Hanson; also 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Reta is predeceased by her sister, Alma Fitzgerald and brothers, Wayne, Donald, & Leonard Cantrell.

Family and friends may call on MONDAY from 2-4 & 7-9 at the HARDISON FUNERAL HOMES INC. 3648 Ransomville rd. Ransomville, NY 14131. Funeral services will be held on TUESDAY in the funeral home at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery TN. Lewiston, NY.
