Obituary of Winifred W. Walton
Winifred W. Walton , 96 of Youngstown, NY, called home to God on May 27, 2019, was born in Niagara Falls, the eldest daughter of Edwin J. and Mabel (Goerss) Wendt on July 10, 1922. She attended local schools and graduated from LaSalle Senior High School in 1940. She was awarded a scholarship to Syracuse University where she earned a degree in Interior Design.
She married Sidney G. Walton, her high school sweetheart in 1944, and they raised their family in Niagara Falls, Lewiston, Orchard Park and Youngstown. As her children grew, she studied at Buffalo State Teachers College, earning a degree in Art Education and subsequently taught art at Lewiston-Porter Central School District for eighteen years.
She volunteered her keyboard skills as a substitute organist at several Lutheran Churches where she has membership over the years. She was also active in local garden clubs, an extension of her love of color and design. She undertook the learning of loom weaving and was for many years a member of weaving clubs locally and in Queenston, Ontario.
Predeceased in 2014 by her beloved husband after 70 years of marriage, she remains the dearly loved mother of Judith (James) Condino, Robbie (Larry) Krizan, Bradley (Debbie) Walton, Tim (Kelly) Walton and Sidney Jr. “Skip” (Gayle) Walton. She leaves behind 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was also predeceased by her sisters Merilyn Jove and Virginia McKenzie. She was 96.
NO PRIOR VISITATION. Funeral services will be held on FRIDAY ( MAY 31) at 12 Noon at the Lutheran Church of the Messiah 915 Oneida St. Lewiston, NY 14092 with Rev. Thomas Mason officiating, burial will follow in Oakland Rural Cemetery Youngstown, NY.
