Obituary of Joan Marie Shively

Joan Marie Shively, age 84 of Lewiston, passed away Wednesday October 17, 2018 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence after a lengthy illness. Joan was born November 28, 1933 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Harry Whitney and Naomi (Johnson) Whitney Godyn. She was a 1951 graduate of Niagara Falls High School and soon after enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Joan served as a Communications Clerk in Washington, DC and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal. She was honorably discharged In February of 1955 with the rank of Teleman Petty Officer 3rd Class. Joan had worked at Great Lakes Carbon, AIRCO Carbon Co., and at JoAnn Fabrics in Lewiston. She married Robert F. Shively on June 5, 1966 and was a homemaker most of the time cherishing her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Joan was a member of the Niagara Presbyterian Church; a member and Treasurer of the Niagara Falls Christian Woman's Club; and a member and Past President of the Town of Niagara Lioness Club. She is survived by her husband, Robert; her children, Michael (Tammy) Godyn, Robin (Tony) Pardee, Margaret (Brian) Hannam, Daniel (Heidi) Shively, and Rebecca Shively; 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a step sister, Dorothea Turner. She was predeceased by a sister, Claudia Etherton and a step brother, Dayton Godyn. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets., Lewiston on Friday from 3 - 8 pm. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 20, at 1:00 PM in the Niagara Presbyterian Church, 3712 Military Rd., Niagara Falls. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a Charity of one's choice. .
