Obituary of Elizabeth I. Murphy
Elizabeth I. "Betty" Murphy, age 96 of Lewiston passed away peacefully on Friday Octobe 5, 2018 at the Niagara Hospice House in Lockport.
Betty was born on December 20, 1921 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Carl and Mary (Fillingham) Anderson and moved to Lewiston as an infant. She graduated from the Red Brick School and Broughton Business School. Betty worked for Moore Business Forms where she met and later married Andrew Murphy in 1942.
She was an assistant Girl Scout Leader, member of the Lewiston Service Guild, the Lewiston Garden Club, The Tatler, a Lewiston Museum volunteer, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston where she was active in the Women's Association. She belonged to the St. Francis Guild where she volunteered in the Mt. St. Mary's gift shop for 25 years. Betty was an avid reader and loved being with her family.On the occasion of Betty's 90th birthday, she received a proclamation from the village of Lewiston.
Her husband, Andrew, predeceased her in 1993. Betty is survived by her daughters, Mary Ann (Rudy) Aranyosi and Barbara (Doug) Fiegel; grandchildren, Mary (John) Zyskowski, Krista (Eric) Schneider, Jamie (Adam) Fiegel and Douglas (Jonna) Fiegel; great grandchildren, Emma and Andy Zyskowski, Erin Schneider, Jaylee and Mia Maddalena , Adia Fowler, Douglas III and Quinn Fiegel. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her step father, George Watson and two brothers, Harold and Donald Anderson.
A Memorial service will be held Saturday, December 22, 2018, at 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston. There will be no prior visitation. Flowers are graciously declined. Memorials in Betty's name may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston, 505 Cayuga St., Lewiston, NY 14092 or to the Lewiston Volunteer Fire Co. #1, 145 N. 6th St. P.O. Box 748, Lewiston, NY 14092. Arrangements have been entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston.
