Obituary of Donald A. Burrows
Donald A. Burrows, age 84, Prominent Fruit Grower of Burt NY, died Wednesday May 16, 2018 in the Buffalo General Medical Center after a brief illness.
Don was born July 23, 1933 on the N. Beebe Road in Wilson, NY, the son of the late Albert and Mabel (Campbell) Burrows and lived there all his life. He owned and operated Burrows Fruit Farm and Burrows Welding.
Don was a member of the NY State Apple Growers; a member and past president of the NY Cherry Growers; a long time director of the National Grape Co-op; a life member and past president of the Wilson Historical Society. He served as a member and chairman of the Town of Wilson Board of Assessment Review. He was also a member of the Exley United Methodist Church, the Empire State Antique Truck Association, and Charlotte Masonic Lodge #73 in Newfane. Don had received many special recognitions in honor of his contributions to the fruit growing industry.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Wanda (Stephenson) Burrows (they recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary); his son, Donald K. Burrows; his daughter, Julie L. Smith; his grandchildren, Stephanie (James) Carl; Justin (Robyn) Burrows, Katelyn (Stephen) Burow, and Chelsea Smith; a brother, Kenneth (Prudence) Burrows; a sister, Janet Ellis; his brother in law, Larry Stephenson and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERALHOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Sunday from 1 - 5 pm. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 21, at 11:00 AM in the Exley United Methodist Church, 338 Lake St., Wilson, with the Rev. John Loeser officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Wilson. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wilson Historical Society, PO Box 830 Wilson, NY 14172 or to the Exley United Methodist Church, PO Box 69, Wilson, NY 14172 would be appreciated by the family.
