Nella W. Ripson, age 94 of Ransomville, passed away Wednesday June 9, 2010 in the palliative care of Our Lady of Peace Nursing Residence in Lewiston, after a brief illness.
Nella was born February 15, 1916 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late George A. and Hannah Margaret (Colquhoun) Wilson. She worked as a secretary for many years with the General Adjustment Bureau in Niagara Falls and then the Niagara Falls Parks Department at Hyde Park, until her retirement in 1977. She and her late husband, Jim, wintered in Sebring, FL for over 30 years. Nella was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Niagara Falls, a member of the In-as much Class, and the Order of the Eastern Star, Flagler Chapter # 355 in Niagara Falls. She was an avid reader and appreciated the world around us. Nella enjoyed her family and church communities.
Nella is survived by a daughter, Eleanor Tornabene of Grand Island; a step daughter, Sandra Ripson of Florida; a special niece, Mary Ellen O'Reilly of Lockport; her grandchildren, Carolyn (Robert) Marble of Grand Island, David (Georgette) Tornabene of Williamsville, NY, Richard Tornabene of Arizona, Samuel William (Lorrie) Tornabene, Jr. of Florida, Theresa (Steve) Stayer of Amherst, NY, Holly (Jeff) Hardwick of Arizona, Nicholas and Douglas Tornabene of East Amherst, NY; 13 great and 3 great great grandchildren, as well as 2 nieces and 2 grand nieces and their children. She was predeceased by her husband of almost 50 years, James R. Ripson; her former husband, William A.P. Evans, Sr.; their son, William A.P. Evans, Jr.; her brother and sister in law George S. and Erma Wilson; a sister and brother in law, Gladys and Francis Sullivan; a nephew, George E. Wilson; and a grand niece, Margaret (Chip) Phofl.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Thursday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM. Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 11, at 11:00 AM in the funeral home with the Rev. Wesley R. Bourdette officiating. Burial will follow in North Ridge Cemetery, Church Rd., Town of Cambria. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Niagara Falls, 554 Main St. Niagara Falls, NY 14301.
