Dear Linda,
So sorry to read of your Dad's passing in the paper when I happened to be back in town for a family gathering in the Falls.
I remember your Dad well, played poker with him and a bunch of guys in Lewiston many years ago. He was a savvy card player, and fun to play cards with. Please accept my sincere condolences.

Lenny was a dear colleague and friend at Grand Island High School. In all the years I knew him ( 30yrs at the High School and beyond) I could always count on him to lift my spirits.Leonard had a way with words that was truly a unique gift and talent.
Bernie touched hundreds of young lives during his career and he will be sadly missed by all of the teachers and students who knew him and delighted in his presence.
May God Bless his family and especially his dear wife.

Mr. Bernstein was my Business Math and Business Law teacher at Grand Island Senior Hight school for the years 1969 - 1970. I graduated in 1973. He was a tough teacher but fair. He enjoyed teaching the students and loved his profession.
I enjoyed his classes. He liked calling me "Devorah". Said that was the proper Hebrew way of saying my name.
To his family, I am sorry for your loss. He was a great man and many of his students remember him. How I found out was through my high school friends on Facebook. He will be fondly remembered and missed.

I really enjoyed him as a teacher. You didn't go to GI High during those years and not have memories of Bernie! We loved him even when he was tough! Thanks for those memories, Bernie! Love & prayers to his family and thanks for sharing him with us!

Mr. Bernstein was my business math teacher at G.I. in 1974. Ironically I was giving out a Carpenters Local# 289 Apprenticeship math test yesterday morning when I saw his obituary. I was deeply saddened, but it also brought back many fond memories of Bernie and I am eternally grateful to him. For he went out of his way one day and put me in his advanced math class after he realized that I was not reaching my full potential in another class . There was no choice, when he got my attention in his own way and said, you are in my class now Stack. Some days you walked out of his classroom with a sore head in more ways than one. Anybody who was ever in his class would know what I mean, LOL. But I do owe him my livelyhood and have thought of him many times over the years when I have had to use skills that he taught me. Those skills also included responsibility, maturiy and a sense of humor. I wish that I could have known him in later years so that I could have thanked him for everything that he did for me in such a short time. I cannot say enough. So my thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. God bless.

I'm sorry for your loss. "Bernie" was my Business Math teacher in the late 70's. He called me 'stick'. He was one of those teachers that make a mark on your life. He was tough but sincere about wanting us to learn. Whenever Grand Islanders get together Mr Bernstein's name comes up. One of my favorite memories was shortly after McDonalds opened and Bernie along with Mr Oldenberg raided it to see who was skipping school. The were like Starsky and Hutch!!! My prayers to you at this time.

We loved Bernie at GIHS. My nick-name was Goat, why I don't know. My sister Karen was baby-goat and my youngest sister was baby-jodi, all chosen by Mr. B. Everyone has Bernie stories that we laugh about to this day. He taught me alot about the real world & business math. May he rest in peace.

My heartfelt condolences to the Bernstein family. Bernie was one of the most loved teachers at GI High and pushed his students to their true potential with tough love. My nickname was "blonde bombshell" and when I was struggling with a particular lesson, he reverted to "mental giant". I'll never forget how fortunate we all were to have such a dedicated teacher help prepare us for the real world. He will truly be missed by so many of his former students. Rest in Peace, Bernie.

Mr. Bernstein was my favorite high school teacher, loved his personality and wit. Walked me through my final exam, he tried to be a tough guy but was just a lamb.
My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

I didn't have Mr. Bernstein for a teacher, I had Mr. Oldenburg. But he used to stand in the hallway outside Mr. Oldenburg's room and the two of them would harass students as they went through the halls. He was very intimidating, but everyone just loved him! Please except my deepest condolences on your loss. He touched a lot of students who passed through GIHS and for that you can be very proud!
