Obituary of Lena "Sally" M. Phillips

Lena “Sally” M. Phillips, age 94 of Youngstown, died peacefully on Thursday November 30, 2017 with family by her side, at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center.

Sally was born on October 27, 1923 in Wellsville, NY, the daughter of the late Howard and Frances (Brown) Voorhees. She had worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville and as a home health aide in Niagara Falls before residing in Youngstown.  She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Youngstown; a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Co.; the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Lake Ontario Post #313 in Youngstown; the Ladies Home Bureau in Wellsville; and the Niagara River Red Hatters Society in Lewiston. She was also a den mother with Cub Scout Troop #7 at Fort Niagara.

Sally was predeceased by her husbands, Richard O. Winquist and Alfred J. Phillips; three brothers and three sisters. Sally was a loving mother and grandmother who is survived by her children, Danny (late Donna) Lanphear of Lewiston, Len (Lili) Lanphear of Pittsford, NY Suzanne K. (Peter) Burrows of Youngstown; Sister in Law, Patricia Voorhees of Allegany, 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
 
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 9, at 10:00 am in St. John's Episcopal Church, Main & Chestnut Sts., Youngstown, with the Rev. Wayne Knockel officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, 110 Chestnut St., Youngstown, NY 14174. Arrangements have been entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts, Lewiston.
