Obituary of Arthur E. Laudenslager, Jr.
Arthur E. Laudenslager, Jr., age 90, 29 year resident of Youngstown, died Saturday October 14, 2017 in Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, after a brief illness.
Arthur was born July 11, 1927 in Jamestown, NY, the son of the late Arthur E., Sr. and Cecilia (Samuelson) Laudenslager. He graduated from Jamestown High School in July of 1945 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Arthur served in the Atlantic Fleet and was honorably discharged in August of 1946 with the rank of Seaman First Class. He was the recipient of the Victory Medal, the American Theater Medal, and a Letter of Commendation. Arthur often joked that his entry into the armed services was the reason for Japan's surrender.
After his discharge Arthur attended Alleghany College in Meadville. PA and received his Bachelor's Degree. He was a Business Man and Entrepreneur, employed by C.J. Tower Brokers in the 1950's. He held executive equity positions at Stevenson Docks in Alabama and other businesses as well. Arthur retired from Petrolantic Energy, Oakville, Ontario, as Senior Vice President.
He enjoyed golfing and sailing and was a member of the Niagara Falls Country Club and the Youngstown Yacht Club.
Arthur was married to Grace Margaret (Furse) Laudenslager from May 2, 1953 until her passing on December 26, 2014. He is survived by a daughter, Susan L. (Christopher) Doyle of Kenmore, NY; a son, Arthur E. (late Deborah) Laudenslager, III of Reston, VA; his grandchildren, Nicholas John Doyle of Bethesda, MD and Kathryn Elizabeth Doyle of Kenmore, NY. He was predeceased by a sister, Johann Banks.
A Celebration of Arthur's Life will be held at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined.
