Obituary of Lois J. Johnston
Lois J. Johnston, of the Town of Niagara passed away Tuesday August 29, 2017 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, at the age of 80. She was born August 1, 1937 to the late John and Carrie (Stacy) Campbell. She was a resident of the Niagara Falls area her entire life.
Lois was a 1955 graduate of Niagara Falls High School. In May of 1958 she married Robert C. Johnston. He died in April of 1977. She attended Niagara County Community College and in 1989 she earned a BS degree in Medical Records Administration from Daemon College in Amherst, NY.
After graduating from high school she was employed at Marine Midland Bank and at E.I. DuPont for a few years until starting her family. In 1974 she returned to the work force and became employed at the NY State Division of Unemployment Insurance. She also worked at the former Cy's Stewart Automotive Co. and Children's Hospital of Buffalo. After earning her degree she was employed at Sisters Hospital and Health Care Plan (now Univera), both of Buffalo, NY/ She was also employed at the former Mechanical Air Systems, Inc. of Lewiston, NY and retired from DiCamillo's Bakery in 2014.
She was a member of the former Notables Women's Chorus, the Ransomville Rural Retirees and volunteered at Artpark in Lewiston. She enjoyed traveling, music, playing cards, reading, and walking and bicycling for exercise. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Lois is survived by her son, Mark T. (Shari) Johnston of Niagara Falls, and her two daughters, Bonnie J. Thompson (John Jacobson) of Ocoee, FL and Laurie C. Johnston Stickney of Niagara Falls; her grandchildren, Christine Johnston (Steve Avery) of Lyman, SC, Justin Thompson (Alexis Butski) of Lewiston, Alyssa (Cory) Chevalier of Jacksonville, FL, Mandy Mendola of Niagara Falls, Robert Reed of Utica, NY, Sophia and Selena Stickney of Niagara Falls, and Sarah (Clark) Summers of Niagara Falls; her great grandchildren, Christopher, Chandler, Nicholas, Colby, Carson, and Eddy; a sister, Bonnie L. Parsons and a brother in law, Brian Johnston; her nieces, Christine (Robert) Bowman and Diane (late Daniel) Potter; nephews, Wade (Leigh) Boyle and Jeffrey Schug; several great nieces and nephews, many cousins and dear friends. In addition to her husband and parents Lois was predeceased by her loving companion and sweetheart, Edmund A. Page who passed away December 24, 2014; her sister and brother in law, Norene and William Boyle, Sr., and her nephew, William S. Boyle.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Friday from 4 - 8 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 2, at 11:00 am in the funeral home with the Rev. Ronald Logan officiating. Flowers are graciously declined and instead memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094 , or to the National MS Society Upstate NY Chapter, Donor Relations Center, 1650 South Avenue, Suite 100, Rochester, NY 14620-3901, or to a charity of one's choice.
