William Brian Muller, 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Niagara Hospice House on Saturday, February 15, 2025. Born on June 3, 1939, in Niagara Falls, New York, he was the son of the late Stanley and C. Marguerite (nee Carley) Muller. Raised in Lewiston, NY, William graduated from Lewiston-Porter Central in the Class of 1957 and furthered his education at Trott Vocational in the Carpenter Apprentice School, eventually becoming a journeyman carpenter with the local carpenters union. He worked on the Power Project during his apprenticeship and also held a pilot's license, ferrying passengers across the river to Niagara on the Lake while employed by Pierce Marine.
William co-owned the Essa Station at 4th and Center Street in Lewiston with John Wright for several years and later joined Moore Business Forms. In 1966, he began his long and fulfilling career at Harrison Radiator, a Division of General Motors, retiring in 1997. In July 1960, he married his beloved wife, Joanne Hatfield, in Lewiston and they moved to Youngstown, NY. Together, they celebrated 59 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
His dedication to community service was evident through his over 60 years of active service with the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Company, where he served as fire chief, assistant chief, trustee, and held the position of president at the Niagara County Fire Chiefs Association. William was also an integral part of the ambulance squad, committed to serving the community. His passion for firefighting was paralleled only by his love for his family.
An enthusiast of various outdoor activities, William was a member of the Youngstown Ski Club and participated in many Labor Day shows. He was a devoted hockey dad, traveling far and wide for youth hockey tournaments. Summers were spent at their cherished cottage near North Bay, Ontario, where he relished fishing, hunting in his younger years, and the company of family and friends. A fervent fan of the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres, William enjoyed watching most sports.
William was a dedicated member of the Youngstown Presbyterian Church, serving as an usher for over 40 years. He is predeceased by his parents, Stanley and C. Margeurite Muller, his wife, Joanne Hatfield Muller, and his dear siblings, Madeline Muller and Rev. J. Paul Muller. He leaves behind his loving sons, Scott (Sheree Huff) Muller and Todd (Bridget) Muller; cherished grandchildren, Emily (Zac) Wilkinson, Brian, Jessica, Carly Muller and Madeline; adored great-grandchildren, Grace Wilkinson and Sawyer Grose; as well as many caring cousins.
