Susan I. Goodnight, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, surrounded by her loving family and under the compassionate care of Niagara Hospice. She was 86 years old.

Born on September 28, 1938, in Lockport, NY, Susan was the cherished daughter of the late Frank and Marion (nee Woodcock) Freer. A proud graduate of Wilson High School, she pursued her passion for education at Buffalo State Teacher College, where she earned her Master’s degree in Teaching. Susan began her career as an educator in the Wilson and Newfane School Districts, where she inspired young minds with her dedication and creativity.

Susan’s journey led her to the West Coast, where she became an accomplished author and publisher of Christian books and magazines, touching countless lives through her faith-driven work. A gifted speaker, she addressed audiences of thousands at Christian conferences and even led a prayer meeting at the Pentagon, embodying her unwavering devotion to her faith and community. Susan’s legacy of faith, love, and service will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.

Later in life, Susan returned to Rochester, NY, where she served as Women’s Pastor at Bethel Christian Fellowship, providing guidance and support to many. Upon retiring, she returned to her hometown of Wilson, NY, where she embraced the warmth of family and lifelong friends.

Susan was predeceased by her caring brother, Milton (late Nancy) Freer. She is survived by her devoted children, Hannah (William) Moltrup, Thomas (Julie) Goodnight, Sarah Goodnight, and Laura Goodnight; her nine cherished grandchildren and thirteen adored great-grandchildren; her dear sister, Barbara (Wayne) Walter; and her caring lifelong friend, Mary “Beth” Wass. She is also lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 21, 2025, from 4 to 7 PM at Hardison Funeral Homes, Inc., 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville, NY. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 11 AM at Exley Community Church, 338 Lake Street, Wilson, NY. Family and friends are kindly asked to assemble at the church. Interment will follow at North Ridge Cemetery, Town of Cambria.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Susan’s honor to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094, or Exley Community Church, 338 Lake Street, Wilson, NY 14172.
