Roderick T. Tower, age 89 lifelong resident of Youngstown, died Saturday June 15, 2013 at his home while under the loving care of his family and Niagara Hospice. Rod was born July 11, 1923 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late George P. and Adelaide (Thomas) Tower and was a 1939 graduate of Youngstown High School. Farming was his life. Rod owned and operated Tower Orchards in Youngstown for many, many years. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Niagara County Cooperative Extension. Rod enjoyed, hunting, fishing, hockey, boating, and traveling. He has been a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown since 1939. Rod married Elsie (Dygert) Tower in 1946. Elsie predeceased him on September 3, 1977. He is survived by his children, David Tower, Robert (Jacquelyn) Tower, Darcy (Bruce) Paeplow , Claudia (Dr. Jerome) Andres all of Youngstown, Brenda (Calvin) Jennings of Columbus, OH, and Mark Tower (Jennifer Filipski) of Youngstown; his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jo Anna, Brian, Ian, Adam, Nick, Halley, Peter, Sarah, Jonathon, Alyssa, Brian, and Cara; seven great grandchildren; and a sister in law, Doris Tower. He was predeceased by two brothers, Richard P., and George Tower. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Monday from 4 - 8 pm. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, June 18, at 11:00 AM in the funeral home, with the Rev. Charles Lamb officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Rural Cemetery, Youngstown.
