Richard W. Maslen, Sr., known affectionately as "Dick," passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Buffalo General Hospital. Born on July 20, 1935, in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Walter E. and Leona (nee Hillman) Maslen.
Dick was a proud graduate of Bishop-Duffy High School, Class of 1953, and served as a reservist with the U.S. Navy after graduation. He enjoyed a fulfilling 45-year career at General Motors as a Parts Manager, retiring in 1997. On November 4, 1989, Dick married his beloved Mary Kathleen “Kathy” Fish in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Youngstown, NY, later renewing their vows at Stella Niagara to celebrate their enduring love.
In retirement, Dick and Kathy embraced their passion for travel, venturing across the United States and the world, including memorable trips to England, Ireland, Alaska, Arizona, California, and Las Vegas. A devoted Fighting Irish fan, Dick rarely missed a game, whether cheering from Gadawski's or in the stadium stands.
Dick's warm humor and generous spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Known as a jokester, he was often asked for his "joke of the day." He was also a dedicated volunteer at Stella Niagara, assisting in the kitchen, performing light maintenance, and chaperoning class trips alongside Kathy. He was a Lewiston Porter youth football coach for many years. Dick will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched, but his legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will live on forever.
Predeceased by his previous wife, Billie Jane Maslen; cherished daughter, Amanda Hess; , and his brother, David Maslen, Dick is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Kathy; his loving children, Richard II (Janice) Maslen, Richard Hess, Robin Hess; Carlynn Barrientos Tammy Puhalovich and Wendy Martin; his treasured grandson, Richard III; his dear sister-in-law, Sandra Maslen; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
