Lawanda Leona Davis, of Lockport, NY, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025, at Lockport Rehab and Health Care Center. She is now in the presence of her Lord, reunited with beloved family and friends. Born on March 7, 1930, in Paulton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ira John Thomas and Roma Florence (née Bush) Hancock.
In 1951, Lawanda married the love of her life, Clifford Pierce Davis, and together they built a strong and loving family while residing in North Chili, NY. Lawanda's life revolved around her unwavering faith, devotion to her family, passion for food, and a hearty appreciation for fun. Growing up during the Great Depression in the hills of Paulton and Apollo, PA, she carried the values of resilience and gratitude throughout her life.
Lawanda spent her adult years in Ransomville, NY, where she was an active and cherished member of the Ransomville Free Methodist Church. She devoted herself to teaching Sunday school, participating in Ladies Ministry, and enriching lives through music ministry. Her dedication to her faith was evident in the nightly devotional gatherings with her children, filled with Bible readings, verse memorization, and heartfelt singing around the piano. Family moments were often celebrated in harmony, singing "Take Time to Be Holy," and summers were joyfully spent at Lighthouse Christian Camp in Barker, NY.
With a love of music, reading, camping, traveling, homemaking, crocheting, and collecting Depression-era glass, Lawanda cultivated a full and meaningful life. Her kindness, affability, and unwavering faith left a profound impact on all who knew her. She has been described as not only a godly woman but also the rock of her family. Her legacy of faith, love, and kindness will forever be cherished.
Lawanda is predeceased by her loving son, Mark E. Davis; cherished grandson, Chad Davis; and dear siblings, Vera Hancock, Evelyn (late Robert) Clark, Ruth (late Harvard) Warren, and Winona Hill. She is survived by her children, Steven D. (Jeanne Supprenant) Davis of Seattle, WA, Lonnie J. (Mark) Neumann of Lockport, NY, Phillip C. (Doreen) Davis of Salem, OR, and Dean W. Davis of Lockport, NY. She also leaves behind her treasured grandchildren, Britani, Nathaniel, Dean, Joesph, Terra, Christina, Justin, Benjamin, Micah, Matthew, Steven, Trevor, Owen and 22 adored great-grandchildren; Also survived by numerous loving nieces, nephews, and close friends.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, April 11, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Hardison Funeral Homes, Inc., 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville, NY, where funeral services will follow at 12:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Lonnie Thoms. Interment will take place at North Ridge Cemetery, Lockport, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lawanda's honor to Ransomville Free Methodist Church, 3924 Ransomville Road, Ransomville, NY 14131.
