Edward Fitzpatrick, age 92 of Lewiston passed away suddenly on Sunday July 1, 2012 at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston. Born on December 8, 1919 in Saltcoats, Scotland to the late Edward and Diana (Brown) Fitzpatrick, he immigrated to Niagara Falls, NY in 1936 and later moved to Lewiston in 1949 where he has resided the last 63 years. Edward enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard on December 8, 1941 and served his country aboard the U.S S. Hunter Liggett APA 14 in the Pacific Theatre during WW II. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Signalman First Class on December 11, 1946. Edward was employed by the New York Central Railroad, the Penn Central Railroad, and by Conrail from which he retired as a Conductor in 1981. As a young man he had worked at the Fairfield Shipbuilding & Engineering Co. in Goven, Scotland. He was a member of the V.F.W. Downriver Post# 7487 in Lewiston, the Lower Niagara Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #584 in Lewiston, the 3F Club, and the American Legion Post #1083 in Lewiston. He was also the National Chairman for the U.S.S. Hunter Liggett APA 14 Reunion Committee. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Frances (Gleason) Fitzpatrick and his sister, Anne (Edmund) Buzanowski. He is survived by a son, Edward (Kathleen) Fitzpatrick; a daughter, Anne (Robert) Welch both of Lewiston; a sister, Diana (late James) Decker of Lewiston; six grandchildren, Robert V. (Lori) Welch, Michele (James) Roth, Michael (Deana) Welch, Kristine (Kristian) Karski, James and Eric Fitzpatrick; seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his loving companion, Gladys Kcuik. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Thursday from 3 to 7 pm. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, July 6, at 10:00 AM in the funeral home, with the Rev. John Timmerman officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the V.F.W. Downriver Post #7487, Lower Niagara Loyal Order of Moose Lodge # 584, the 3 F Club in Youngstown or the Lewiston Volunteer Fire Co. #1 Ambulance Fund.
