Dorothea A. Brown (née Morell), age 89, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2025, in Lady Lake, Florida, surrounded by her loving family. After a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease and dementia, she left this world with grace and strength.
Born on February 23, 1935, in Lockport, New York, Dorothea was the cherished daughter of Sam and Josephine (nee Gullo) Morell. A graduate of St. Joseph Academy in Lockport, she pursued her love for art through higher education at The University of Miami and Penn State, ultimately earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Dorothea’s life was a testament to creativity, compassion, and adventure. As an art teacher at Lewiston Porter High School, she inspired generations of students with her enthusiasm and passion. Beyond the classroom, she contributed to the vibrant cultural tapestry of Lewiston. For over 30 years, she was an active member of the Lewiston Garden Club and proudly owned "The Back Door," a beloved shop where she shared her talents for weaving and painting. Her participation in the Annual Lewiston Art Festival and the Lewiston Christmas Walk enriched these local traditions and left a lasting impact.
Her adventurous spirit led her to travel the world on numerous journeys and cruises. Dorothea’s heart belonged to the Buffalo Bills, and she found joy in the timeless music of Kenny Rogers. Her unwavering faith as a longtime member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Lewiston offered her solace and strength throughout her life. Dorothea will be remembered for her boundless creativity, love for life, and the deep connections she fostered with those around her.
Dorothea is reunited in heaven with her devoted husband, Clark Brown; her parents, Sam and Josephine Morell; her sister, Betty (late Ray) Cheney; and her brother, Robert Morell. Her legacy is carried on by her son, Clark Banks (Lori) Brown of Lady Lake, Fl; her grandson, Bradley Maines of Niagara Falls, NY; and her great-granddaughter, A’laya of Niagara Falls, NY. The family will be present to receive friends on Saturday, July 5, 2025, from 9-11 AM at Hardison Funeral Homes, Inc., 401 Ridge Street, Lewiston, NY. A funeral service will follow at 11 AM, with interment at Cold Springs Cemetery, Lockport, NY.
