Donald S. Platts, 73, of the Town of Niagara, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. Born on November 7, 1951, in Buffalo, New York, he was the beloved son of the late Donald L. Platts and Beverly (nee Hunt) Young. 

Don graduated from Riverside High School in Buffalo, NY, and was drafted into the US Army during the Vietnam Era, serving honorably in Korea. After his army discharge, he returned to the area and joined the US Air Force, 914th out of Niagara Falls, NY, working as a flight medic and in medical evacuations. He dedicated 33 years of service, retiring in 2011 as Chief Master Sergeant.

On June 24, 2011, Don married Mary E. Pyle on the Niagara Falls Air Force Base in the Town of Niagara. He had a deep love for family, serving his country and travel which took him exploring coast to coast and down south. His love of music, playing the acoustic guitar and bass, was also shared with his grandson Christian. Known to many by his Ham Radio sign NF2NY, Don was also often seen at the casino, enjoying his retirement.

Predeceased by his parents, his dear sister Debbie Platts, father-in-law, Harry Pyle, brother-in-law, Charles Venne, and his former wife Brenda G. (nee Duringer) Platts. Don leaves behind his beloved wife Mary E. Pyle Platts; his loving children, Sarah J. Platts and Brian C. Platts; cherished grandchildren, Kaylee P. and Christian M.; and caring brothers, Danny (Lori) Platts and Denny (Kim) Platts; caring son-in-law of Mary V. Pyle; dear sister-in-law, Anne Venne and brother-in-laws, Robert Pyle and David Pyle. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, from 3-7 PM at HARDISON FUNERAL HOMES, INC., 401 Ridge Street, Lewiston, NY, where Funeral Services will follow at 7 PM. Friends are invited to attend wearing their Buffalo sports teams apparel to honor Don’s love for his favorite sports teams.
