Barbara Rowland Smith

Barbara Rowland Smith, of Niagara Falls, passed away peacefully at home on March 20, 2025, after a courageous battle with severe asthma and COPD. Born on July 24, 1957, to George and Roberta Rowland of Lewiston, Barbara lived a life full of adventure, love, and devotion.

Barbara was a proud alumna of Lewiston Porter High School, Niagara County Community College and Niagara University. After her studies, she ventured to New York City to pursue her dream of modeling, joining the prestigious Wilhelmina modeling agency.

Fate led Barbara back home, where she met a professional golfer during a visit to the Niagara Falls Country Club. Their marriage took her on an extraordinary journey around the world as his caddy, including unforgettable moments like attending a party at Bob Hope’s home.

After their marriage ended, Barbara returned to her roots in Lewiston and explored various careers. She later found her true happiness when she met and married the late Danny Smith. Together, they built a life in Little Valley, enjoying the serenity of their spring-fed pond, gardening, and adventurous rides on their four-wheeler.

Barbara’s journey continued when she relocated to Niagara Falls, where she provided compassionate care to elderly clients and embraced a partnership with Dave Kriegbaum. Barbara and Dave shared a love for home improvement projects, cherished weekends at his camp, and memorable boating adventures.

Those who knew Barbara remember her as a loving and generous soul. She lived simply yet profoundly, treasuring her home, her loyal dogs, and her family. Barbara’s creativity and warmth shone through in her beautifully decorated home during every holiday, her delightful cooking, and her knack for giving her family unique treasures. An avid Bills fan, she found joy in the little moments that made life special. Barbara’s love, resilience, and vibrant spirit will remain in the hearts of those who knew her.

Barbara is survived by her devoted family: her fraternal twin sister Georgia (Rick Lecksell) of San Diego, her brother David Rowland, her sister Katherine Morrison (Dick Portale) of Lewiston, her sister Ann Gorsuch (Lee Gorsuch) of Bellingham, WA, her beloved partner Dave Kriegbaum, and many cherished nieces and nephews, including Gage, Adria, Collyn, Ryan, and Kathy.

There will be no prior visitation. Arrangements by the HARDISON FUNERAL HOMES, INC., 401 Ridge Street, Lewiston, NY. Barbara’s family will hold a private Celebration of Life to honor her memory.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara’s name to the Niagara County SPCA, reflecting her deep love for animals and compassion for others.
