Winnifred (“Winnie”) J. Clark (nee Fitchett), age 81, of Youngstown, wife of the late Robert (“Bob”) E. Clark died on Friday, September 30, 2022, at Rochester General Hospital in Rochester, NY. Winnie was born April 13,1941 in Cobourg, Ontario, Canada. She is the daughter of the late Clarence Percival and the late Hazel Rita (nee Clarke) Fitchett. Winnie attended Newmarket High School in Newmarket, Ontario. She married Bob on May 7, 1960, in Newmarket, Ontario. She worked as a cashier at the local IGA before becoming a full-time stay-at-home mom to the family’s three children. She was a dedicated wife and wonderful homemaker. Winnie had the opportunity to make several warm homes and many good friends as she and Bob moved their young family several times, including a 7-year stint in London, England, before settling in Youngstown, NY.
Winnie was committed to her community. She was an active member of the Jaycee Wives’ Club in Angola, IN and Arlington Heights, IL. She served many years as a Deacon at the Youngstown Presbyterian Church and was a Girl Scout Leader for both of her daughters. Winnie also enjoyed volunteering for The Presbyterian Women’s Group and The Youngstown Free Library. She was an avid reader and crossword puzzle solver, a great bowler, a competitive bridge player, and was recently learning the game of Mah-jongg with her devoted friends. Some of her favorite memories were of traveling around Europe with the American Women’s Club of London.
Surviving are her children, Julia (Jerry) Hurley of Pittsburgh, PA, Karen (Jim) Littley of Yardley, PA, and Jeffrey (Dawn) Clark of Webster, NY; her grandchildren, Brooks, Griffin, Juliana, Jimmy, Liam, and Gavin; her great granddaughter, Deawna; her siblings, Lorraine Humphrey, Marilyn Jones, Beverly Tait, Ronald Fitchett, Donald Fitchett, and Gary Fitchett; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters Lola Blackburn and Gwen Hope.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown 100 Church St. Youngstown, NY 14174 on Saturday December 3, 2022, at 11:00 AM.
