Salvatore Abbate

Salvatore P. "Sam" Abbate, age 69, died on Friday, June 17, 2011 at his home in Cambria, NY with his fiance` by his side, after a brief illness. He was born on July 30, 1941 in Buffalo, NY, the son of the late Frank M. and Mary Biondolillo Abbate. Sam graduated from Canisius High School in 1959, and attended the University of New York at Buffalo where he received his B.A. and Law Degrees. He was a member of the New York State Bar Association for 31 years and the Florida State Bar Association for 26 years. He was instrumental in starting the R.U.S. program during his employment in P.T.S. In addition to his private practice, he was very active in the Assigned Counsel Program of the Erie County Bar Association. Sam was an avid breeder of German Shepherd dogs, and enjoyed boating and fishing. He is survived by his fiance`, Stephanie L. Sheusi; four sons, Mathew A. (Susan) Abbate of Hamburg, NY, Damien M. Abbate of Miami, FL, Andrew S. (Allie) Abbate of Long Island, NY, and Nicholas F. Abbate of Buffalo, NY; two daughters, Alexis L. Abbate and Olivia T. Abbate, both of Buffalo, NY; his grandchildren, Stephanie A. Abbate and MIles Abbate Kirby; a brother, Charles F. (Patricia) Abbate of Warwick, RI; and two nephews, Charles F. and Frank P. Abbate. Stephanie Sheusi would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Eugene J. Gosy and Joseph A. Muscato, Esq. for their help and support during Sam's illness. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts., Lewiston on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 from 6 to 8 pm. A Memorial Service will follow at 8 pm in the funeral home, with the Rev. Angelo Chimera of All Saints Parish in Buffalo officiating. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to SALS-PALS (a non-profit organization for the benefit of law enforcement canines), M&T Bank, 2381 Grand Island Blvd., Grand Island, NY 14072.
