NAOMI NEIMANIS, ACTRESS IN RESIDENCE AT NIAGARA UNIVERSITY Naomi Neimanis, age 82, of Lewiston died Friday, January 27, 2017 in Niagara Hospice House in Lockport where she spent the last three years under their graceful and loving care. Naomi was born April 20, 1934 in New York City to the late Isia and Anna Seligman. She taught and Niagara University from 1973 to her retirement in 2002. In August of 1974, The Very Reverend Kenneth F Slattery, C.M named Naomi Neimanis as Niagara University's actress in Residence. Before that she had been actress in Residence at Gannon College in Erie PA, but it is in the NYC schools and theatres where actors forge their talents and reputations. A former student of Lee Strasberg at the famous, Actors Studio, Ms. Neimanis made her professional debut with the legendary Circle in The Square Production of Tennessee Williams Summer and Smoke with Geraldine Page and Rip Torn. She was also a member of The Falmouth Mass. Summer Theatre where she acted with Sandy Dennis and Jean Seberg. On the Niagara Frontier her contributions with Niagara University Theatre, Niagara Falls Little Theatre, and Artpark Productions include; Amanda in Tennessee Williams, The Glass Menagerie and Cat On a Hot Tin Roof, Lola in William Inge's Come Back Little Sheba, Marthe De Brancovis in Watch On The Rhine, Natella In The Caucasian Chalk Circle, Frauline Schnieder in Cabaret, The Title Role in the solo show An Evening Of American Ladies created by Neimanis and Brother Augustin Towey CM, The House keeper in The Sound Of Music, Man of LaMancha, Yente in Fiddler On The Roof, Spoon River Anthology, Gertrude Stein Gertrude Stein, Gertrude Stein directed by David Oliver and Miss Margarita in Miss Margaritas Way to name a few. She is survived by her husband, George Neimanis Professor Emeritus at Niagara University; her daughter, Aerial Actress and playwright, Mara Neimanis (Bryce Butler); three grandchildren, Sara, MD, Emily and David. She was predeceased by a son, Andrei Neimanis in 2013. Funeral Services will be held in HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts. Lewiston on Wednesday, February 1, at 11:00 am with Rabbi Ellen Frank officiating. Burial will follow in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston. There will be no prior visitation. Flowers gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr. Lockport, NY 14094.
