Betty Van Zandt, age 84 of Youngstown, died Friday December 30, 2016 in Elderwood at Wheatfield Nursing Home in the Town of Wheatfield.

Betty was born September 19, 1932 in Rockville Center, NY, the daughter of the late Harry and Lillian E. (Bang) Van Zandt. She was employed as an Administrative Assistant by Lehman Brothers from 1961 to 1978, then by Lazard Capital Markets, in New York City, NY retiring in 1986 and moving to Youngstown.

Betty was a member and Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown, member of the Youngstown Garden Club, and a member of the PEO Sisterhood. She was very fond of the children’s programs at the church and had a great love for the dogs in Youngstown, knowing each of their names. Betty enjoyed bicycling in Youngstown and Canada with her friends and was a member of the Adirondack and Appalachian Hiking Clubs. Betty also enjoyed hiking in Europe.

She was predeceased by a sister, Doris Petzak. Betty is survived by her best friends, Burt and Ellen Anderson, Gary and Kate Myers. 

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 24, at 11:00 AM in the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown, 100 Church St., Youngstown. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Equi Star Therapeutic Riding, 2199 Fuller Rd., PO Box 25, Newfane, NY 14108 or to the Heart of Niagara Animal Rescue, 3652 Ewing Rd. Lockport, NY 14094. Arrangements are entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts., Lewiston.
