Carl E. Shaffer, age 83, a 55 year resident of Youngstown, died Saturday, April 23, 2016, at his home under the loving care of his family and Niagara Hospice after a year long illness. Carl was born April 27, 1932 in Lockport, the son of the late Glenn and Dorothy (Peters) Shaffer. He attended local schools and enlisted in the U.S. Navy to serve his country during the Korean War on January 22, 1951. Carl served aboard the Escort Carrier, the USS Sicily. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Aviation Boatswain Mate 1st Class on January 18, 1955 and was the recipient of the National Defense Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the United Nations Medal, the Korean Service Medal (three stars), and the Navy Occupation Medal. On November 17, 1956 Carl married his first wife, Patricia (Edwards) Shaffer. Patricia predeceased him on October 6, 1991. Carl was employed as a Cable Splicer by the NY Telephone Co. for many years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the NRA, an avid hunter, and enjoyed traveling. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn "Sally" (Hare) Teaman Shaffer whom he married on October 30, 1997. Also surviving are his children, Shirley Campbell, Susan (Thomas) Rohring, David (Nicky) Shaffer, Kathy (John) Mayan, and Tom (Rachel) Teaman; a brother, Glenn (Joan) Shaffer; two sisters, Nancy Wilson and Carol Pierce; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Timothy Teaman. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Wednesday, April 27, from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM. Service and burial in Oakland Rural Cemetery will be private at the convenience of the family. Carl
