David C. Ellcome, age 69 of Youngstown, died unexpectedly on Sunday March 22, 2015 in Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston. David was born October 18, 1945 in Portsmouth, England, the son of the late Edwin C and Joan (street) Ellcome. He was raised and schooled in Portsmouth and received his secondary education at the Portsmouth Glass Works. David was active with Ocean Youth Club of Portsmouth, sailing on the British Channel Cutter “Theodora”. His sailing brought him to the United States in 1968, and on November 30, 1968 he married Judith “Judy” Orr. They lived in Portsmouth England for several years before returning to Youngstown. Judy predeceased him on January 8, 2014. David was a union glazier, employed by Cataract Glass Co. in Niagara Falls, NY for 20 years. He was a member of the 3F Conservation Club and a former member of the Youngstown Yacht Club. Davey and Judy shared a passion for sailing on their boat “Little Limey” and he was especially passionate about teaching sailing. David is survived by his son, Benjamin (Jessica Walsh) Ellcome of Exeter, RI; his granddaughter, Be Lily Ellcome Hill; and a brother Alan (Sandra) Ellcome of Southampton, England. He was predeceased by a daughter, Sarah Ellcome. A Celebration of David’s life will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2015 after 4PM at The Ontario House (aka The Stone Jug) at 358 Main Street, Youngstown NY.
